Phenomenal prequel here! This was selected for a shout out in my podcast, so I just finished reading. Your worldbuilding continues to be incredibly impressive, and the mixture of horror and fantasy is endlessly compelling!
Thanks again for the feedback, the praise, and the shout out! I look forward to listening.
This one was a challenge. The fact that it wasn't planned when I wrote the original story meant making decisions about how much worldbuilding to do in the prequel. Assuming this would be read in the order it was written, I decided to assume some reader knowledge of the environment but still threw in some tidbits about the bioluminescent flora, etc. Along the way, I discovered a few hitches that I plan to work out when I write the middle story, The Shadow's Betrayal. (Of course, I am going to write the middle story, lol!) But that's what these challenges are all about, right?
Brilliantly written. I love the ending so much. I assume this is a prequel as well? Seeing as how the wizard took her shadow. Great job on the description of the beast and I especially enjoy the names you’ve created for them.
Thank you, and yes this is a prequel to The Shadow's Heart. I left this installment ending right before Anja confronts the beast, so I have room for a middle story (The Shadow's Betrayal), which will fill in the blanks between these two. We will learn a little more from the shadow's perspective, which will give us a motive for the events in The Shadow's Heart. Thanks again for reading and the great feedback!
Thank you! This has been a really fun project, and my first exploration into the fantasy genre. Watch for the middle story, The Shadow's Betrayal, coming in a week or so.
